SCE Offers Energy Tips as LA County
Residents Get Set for Summer
ROSEMEAD, Calif., March 9,
2004 — Southern California Edison (SCE) today suggested
several practical ways its Los Angeles County customers
can get themselves and their homes set for summer before
the heat comes.
“We encourage our customers to start
preparing now for the hot summer ahead,” said Pam
Bass, SCE’s senior vice president of customer service.
Take advantage of rebates for energy-efficient products
to help save energy and money when temperatures rise.”
Following are four examples of energy-and
money-saving home improvement products customers can buy
and install to help manage their electricity usage. These
products are eligible for SCE rebates.
• ENERGY STAR® programmable
thermostats help maintain room temperatures within 2 degrees
and save 20-30 % on cooling and heating bills.
• ENERGY STAR®-labeled refrigerator—the
largest single user of energy in many homes.
• Energy-efficient ducted evaporative cooling systems
reduce home temperatures up to 30 degrees in desert areas.
This product uses only one-third of the energy of conventional
air conditioning units.
• Energy-efficient pool pumps and motors can help
customers with backyard swimming pools save on their energy
use.
SCE also recommends two tips that will help customers use
energy more wisely when summer comes:
• Set thermostats at 78 degrees.
• Give appliances the afternoon off—run clothes
washers, dryers and dishwashers after 6 p.m. and only when
full.
SCE customers can call (800) 736-4777 with questions about
the utility’s programs and services. More information
and rebate applications also are available on the utility’s
Web site, www.sce.com/summer.
